It's not a bad result though Zuga. You made it to the final table and won over $130.
Congrats.

Yes. Whenever you can cash in a tourney it is a big plus because it is very hard to do. I often wonder how the same people are always at the final table in WSP and other big tourneys. But lately I am noticing some new faces too.
I still believe a lot is luck and luck must be on your side, but then again...a lot of the same people are always there.
Would appreciate comments on how much you think luck figures in.

I would have to say that skill is the main factor when playing poker , however even the Pros need some luck. Ive seen many times you play your hand by textbook, do everything right and then lose on the river to a badbeat. these things happen, but if you stick to your game and keep on improving your play you are bound to get some good results. I know my play has improved significantly, so officially Im no longer a fish/donk

I like to think I "know" how to play. I will admit I don't figure out the outs and really know nothing about pot odds which I know a person must study in order to be really good. So guess I am a donk. But I have been doing much better lately with my patience for waiting for a decent hand and working on my betting strategy. I cashed in a couple sit n go's since I started back and that has helped improve my game. I would rather play slots, but poker is OK too. medtrans

I know my play has improved significantly, so officially Im no longer a fish/donk That made me laugh. Medtrans, There is clearly a lot of skill in poker but then there is always going to be that element of luck. I've played in an 8000 player tourney and made it to the final table and just played 17 hands. I have no doubt in mind that some of the other final tablers had played maybe 100 or more hands because that is how they play. That doesn't make them a bad player as such it just makes them a different player. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are different skills that can be used in poker and not everyone uses all of those skills all the time and there always has to be just that bit of luck. Example would be you have KK and your opponent has AA and you hit your K on the flop and crack the aces. Thats luck but is it unskillful that the Aces got beat? Skill has to win the majorty of the time. As for the new faces at WSOP, that's online players for ya and that is a totally different ballgame for the pros. I could go on but I'd bore me to death. blue

When I read your posts, you are so right blue and zuga. So many things to consider in poker and it is a lot of skill.
I'll keep plugging away at it.

Thanks Medtrans. I know you gave it up for a long time and I think if you can stay in the frame of mind you are in, you will do well. Keep those wins coming. blue

Hey Zuga, congratulations again! Making it to the final table at any time is a win in my mind... of course I am so much of a fish you ought to be thinking of sushi right now! I have watched those "lucky" players drop like rocks at the tables lately and have adopted (as best I can) a wait for the good hands method that seems to be what gets me to those final tables. I sit back, wait for the right hands to play and let the big shots shoot each other right out of the game. Oh and yes there is always that Bad Beat... if I understand what that is... yesterday I started with AA and ended up with a full house... Fives full of Aces... my opponent ended with 4 of a kind with his 5 in the hole. Got caught with my All-In pants down... katt

Ok, I have to brag on tonight's game a little or I will just bust! 9 seat SnG and I am following along just holding my own... but I make it to the final 2 head to head... he has about $12000 and I have about $1200... uh oh David and Goliath, this guy has smooshed everyone else and holds the bigger hammer. We play back and forth and I get down to about $200 and getting tired of the cat and mouse... so I go ALL-IN... and win the hand... ok, not supposed to be over yet, so we go back and forth again, only this time I keep gaining on him and he is getting nervous, changes his playing style, gets more aggressive and I come even with him, pass him, and long story short... 1st Place for the Katt! Prize was just for Poker Points and I got 70 and he got 30, but what a fun experience... and of course I can use those PPs to get into more competions and I think I will aim for the WSOP, I mean if I am gonna dream I might as well dream big! katt

What a fantastic comeback Katt. You will probably have heard the saying "chip and a chair" - none so true in this case.
That is a truly fantastic achievement. Sometimes it isn't about the prize it's about skill and I think you showed a lot of skill here.
Big big congratulations Katt. I'm really, really pleased for you.
