Guess what... I was playing poker again today and had a thought Laugh out Loud Laugh out Loud

What is on my mind today is buying flops when they are cheap at the beginning of a game. Playing looser just to see them when the BB is only $20 or $30.

I find myself inclined to do this and I often get the winning hand from the flop. I don't do it when the BB is more than say $50... too much to lose at that point.

So, what do you guys think about that and do you do it? Or is this a total fish strategy?

Buying flops is a strategy but winning the hand when trying to buy the flop (with a rubbish hand) is a fishy strategy.  I would say it's borderline "fish" Katt.  If it works for you, carry on.

I don't do it personally, I don't like risking my chips on not so great hands but that is just my style of play.

Yeah, I thought it might be a "fishy" strategy... but, I will probably keep doing it because it tends to work for me and I am able to clean up my act and fly right when the blinds are bigger... I am finding I start out a little bit behind a lot of times and come out better in the end when that is the case...

When I first started playing another player I often played against told me that you have to start out losing to win in the end... and he did win a great deal of the time... maybe that has had more effect on me than one would think. I sure have not forgotten it and think of it often when I am running a little behind.

Boy this poker stuff gives you a lot to think about.

This poker stuff is definitely a lot to think about.

I have found that I play better when I am the small stack or running a little behind.  Not sure why that is - perhaps I try harder or take more risks than I normally would.  It was sound advice that the guy gave you.

I play mostly freerolls.  I haven't deposited in a poker site for quite some time.  I suppose freerolls are different than buy-in tourneys, but most players in the freerolls play EVERY hand.  It is amazing what they win the pot with.

BetOnline has freerolls every hour.  So I usually sign up for a few at a time.

I have to admit I normally will not play rubbish hands even in the beginning.  I will go all in though more often than not if my hand is decent.  But then so will some with 86 off and they seem to win.

To me it's a crap shoot, but then again it is a freeroll and people play their hands as such.

Its bingo in those freerolls.  9 times out of 11 the first to go all-in will win no matter what they have (these were stats that I found somewhere many moons ago).  It's an RNG thing.

When one of these bingo players go all in, unless I have AA or KK or AK I go ahead and fold. If I don't, I am done and saying... Dammit I did it again....

I don't do the cheap flops if I have nothing at all in my hand... like a 2 9 off like the really fishy fish do. I wait for very promising hands like 10 J suited or J K off...

Of course any hand folded ends up being 4 of a kind or full house or something else you could have won with. But, any hand played out ends with 4 cards toward a straight or flush or whatever that might pay. I think it is the RNG laughing at me!

Going all in 29 off is not something I can do either so you're not alone.

Those folded "winning" hands are a nightmare for sure Katt.
