Favourite Starting Hand....re-visited
« on: April 03, 2012, 08:01:06 AM »
I asked this question a couple of years ago and being as there are a lot of "new" members on the site (well new compared to the time that I originally asked the question), I'm interested to hear your favourite starting hand.

Of course everyone wants pocket rockets but that does not mean it is necessarily your favourite starting hand.

Personally, I love King rag suited.  I don't know what it is about that hand that makes me gamble with it every time.

Another old fave which seems to hit quite often is 69 both suited and offsuit.

Tell me your favourite starting hands - what is it about that hand that makes you call with it, even if it is considered a "rubbish" hand?

The one I cannot resist is A8, suited or not... I am sure it is the old story about aces and eights being the dead man's hand from a legend that it was the five-card-draw hand held by Wild Bill Hickok...

I know it only amounts to Ace and a rag, but there it is all the same... If the bet is outrageous I will fold and not play it, but then what is outrageous... LOL I think I have folded it once... LOL

How many times of all the times you didn't fold it, would you say that you won with it Katt?

I quite like A9 myself.

I guess one of my favorites is AQ.I'm not sure why but it is.
I agree with A8 thing too.I don't know why but I usually call with it.

Good question blue... I have not kept track of how many times I win with it or lose with it, but reflecting on it, I would say that it is fairly close to 50/50, with perhaps a few more losses than wins. I am going to take a tally going forward for a bit and see if that is the case.

Another thing I thought of is that I want to call with any 2 suited cards... and every time I get to that situation I remember the cartoon with the caption that at least they were suited... Have been trying to curb that tendency because that one loses a lot more often than not. Now I try to only play them if they can be bridged into a straight also. Or when one of them is an over card.

And rosebud I like an Ace and a Lady pretty well myself! Have to go with you on that one, can't fold it in most instances.
