Ok so I know the rules of poker, and I know enough to win a freeroll or two. But how do I get better? Are books a good start? Videos?

I like watching the instructions videos on youtube and was thinking of getting one of those subscriptions - but they are pretty darn expensive, at least $100. The only one that seems to have a reasonable price is Real Poker Training at $30 for 1 month. Is this an ok place to start? Any sugggestions?

I tried reading Phil Gordon's Little Green book but fell asleep, and I'm trying to read Harrington which is good - but I don't have much patience to read beyond the first chapter

Hi anatoly,

It's a shame that Full Tilt is down because their poker academy is pretty good.  It sets you tasks to do and goals to reach to improve your game.

Why not try this - find your leak at Poker Player Cafe.  This site is USA ok and it tells you where your leak in your game is.

I certainly wouldn't be spending money on a subscription based training as there are so many free tools on the poker sites, the above being 2 of them.

For a good read, here are the top 3 rated poker books:

Internet Texas Hold'em: Winning Strategies from an Internet Pro by Matthew Hilger
The Theory of Poker: A Professional Poker Player Teaches You How To Think Like One by David Sklansky
Winning Low-Limit Hold'em (2nd Edition) by Lee Jones
