Here is some advice, never actually learn how to play. You will do much better, most likely all of your opponents are terrible so the suckouts will come more often the better you play.

you're right - you have to play differently when heads up - Ace rag is a great hand heads up but not when there are 10 of you at the table.

and you are right about the "feeling lucky" - sometimes you have to go with your gut instinct and that only comes with time.

I remember the best advice i ever got from Howard Lederer in a weekly email he sent out. I was fairly new to the whole tourney thing. His advice was this.. at the start of any tourney...sit tight and dont bet a hand. Let the all inners knock each other out. Then you can get down to business.

He also said once you have a real good lead. (top ten)....sit back...even if it means to walk away from the table as to not lose your spot. Advicing once you are chipper leader or close to it NEVER jeopordize that lead til you hit the final table.

I have followed his advice ever since and it does help me. Of course i have moments its too hard to resist to play certain hands and cave in.

Its definitely sound advice.  I remember a game where I was in the last 11 - mid position.  The blinds were huge and the usual muppets were stealing em.  I sat back and waited and waited and still there were 11 and then I hit pocket 10s.  Usual person was stealing the blinds with his muppet bets and I just thought that i'd had enough of his bull so I went all in.  He had AA which held and I was out in 11th place.

I did learn from it - next tourney I was in where I managed to get close to the final table, I was chucking away some reall corkers but it was worth it. Made it to the final table and belive I finished in 4th.
