I have been wondering about this for a while... How do you decide which Sit n Go to play. What brought it to mind is where I have been playing at Bovada Poker. In the micro (lowest cost) games there are choices as follows:

$1.00 + .10 Holdem with 9 players and a $10 prize that starts with top pay of $4.20 for first place and 3 places paid.

$3.00 + .30 Triple Up with 9 players and each of the top 3 get $9 when 6 players are gone.

$5.00 + .50 Double Up with 6 players and each of the top 3 get $10 when 3 players are gone.

There are of course others but these are the 3 that I tend to play and have this quandary about. It would seem to be simple, but I am not sure.

In the first case you can play 9 games for $10 and have a chance of making a profit of $27.90

In the second case you can play only 3 games for $10 and have a chance of making a profit of $17.10

And in the third case you can play 2 games for $10 and have a chance of making a profit of $9.00

That is where it seems simple... $10 most profit $27.90... easy peasy. But, then what I have trouble factoring into the equation is the time, effort, and probability of making the max money in each situation.

9 games where you have to beat 72 people to get top prizes, or only 3 games where you have to beat 18 people to get top money, or 2 games where you have to beat only 6 people to get top money?

If you are confused now, grab a paddle cause you're in the same boat as me!

No paddle needed here Katt.

I do understand where you are coming from here and I've never actually thought about it in this way before.

When I join a tourney, it usually depends on how I'm feeling.  If I'm tired, I'm looking for a quick game.  If I have plenty of time, I'm looking for the long game and if I'm in the middle of these two i.e. not so tired and I have about an hour or two to spare, I'm looking for a middle of the road game.

For a "tired" game, I'm looking for a cheap buyin with 6 players.
If I've plenty of time, I'm looking for a medium buyin double up game which seem to take longer
For the middle of the road game, I'm up for a $2-$5 10 seater.

Of course, the other factor is bankroll.

As for thinking about the profit side of things and weighing things up the way you have, I've never thought about it that way at all.

Certainly food for thought Katt.  Be interesting to hear what others have to say.
