I know I've asked the question before about how to play pocket Jacks.

Here is a fine set of tips from Daniel Negreanu HERE.

What Daniel says does make sense and it pretty much follows my way of thinking about them but that doesn't mean they are easy to play.

he pretty much said what we already knew about jacks..which is that they kind of make your skin crawl a bit when you look down and see you have them..so much thinking has to go on with them in your hand..your opponents previous patterns of betting, your position at the table, your chip stack, their chip stack..as always I believe the best thing you can do in this circumstance is pay attention to how your opponents have played their cards previously and if you are lucky enough and have been at the table long enough to know how others play their cards that is the best indicator you have of how to play these...sooooo many factors go into this hand , this game really..but Daniel always has good insight ..thanks for sharing

Very true Masskat and some great advice too.  I think the most important/helpful thing to do at a table is to make notes on a player.  I generally write down what they raise with, what they flat call with and showdown hands too.  One thing I don't do is date the notes which, on reflection, is something that I should be doing.  Players change their way of play over time and a date in the notes can be really useful.

I live in Las Vegas so I play on a pretty regular (1x week) basis..I try to get in the Orleans friday night tourney every week $125/12500 in chips/30 min blinds gets about 275 peple and 1st usually pay around $6800..(last friday I cashed in 16th place for 400) I also like playing in some of Caesars series events, the venetian deep stacks when they come around and last week I played at the Mirage-they have a saturday tourney with 50K in chips for $125 had a lot of fun in that-went out 9th (they paid 8th).  I used to play on Pokerstars before the US got kicked out but I definitely prefer live play..my biggest live win was at the orleans, took first for $ 5500 and my biggest win online was an $11 tourney with over 4000 players..I won that for something like $6000 (that was a few years ago)..it is by far my favorite past time..at least in poker (vs casinos online) I think I have a chance to win lol

Sounds like you are an accomplished live player then Masskat and very lucky to live in Vegas.  $5500 is a very nice payout as is $4k online.  Congrats on those.

I've played live in a casino only the once and it was pretty rough I can tell you.  It was mainly men playing. The comments were appauling but I managed to ignore them as much as I could.  I didn't place anywhere (it was a rebuy and addon which I' don't like) but my son managed to make it through to the final table and win around £360 for coming 7th and he managed that without any rebuys or addons.  Apart from that I prefer to play online.

It took me a long time to figure out how to use my minority sex to my advantage and believe it or not there are more advantages than disadvantages if you are not the type of person who is easily intimidated.  When I first played live about 10 years ago there were almost no women playing, maybe 2-3 tops in a 200 player tourney..I realized that making friends with the men enticed them to soft play a bit and as the years went on I had to earn my place at the table.  The places I frequent a lot of course know me so the regulars there don't underestimate my abilities but there is rarely a time when some player doesn't try to steamroll me at the table but I am pretty used to that so I can work with that sort of player..those (usually young guns) guys hate to lose to a woman so I do get some extra pleasure when I can beat them..of course having a poker tattoo on my arm doesn't hurt either..lol

I also have one on my back with the KG hearts and my hsuabnds name and mine with the date we were married..I got this for him for our 25th anniversary I don't have a picture of that one
