O-O-o-omaha
« on: January 18, 2012, 10:35:47 PM »
I have only played a few games of Omaha and mostly managed to wipe out way early in the game.

I played again tonight, getting into the game as a late register just before the 1st break.

At first I floundered a bit, then I got the hang of it and then I finished in 19th place.

Wait, before you cheer, let me say that this particular tournament paid prizes to 18th place.

Let my emotions take me out on an intense hand and out I went. Talk about going out on the bubble!

Has this happened to you lately? Or ever? LOL

Of course you're not alone Katt.

Nice to see you are experimenting with Omaha.

Thank you ladies! I feel better now! Lots of folks to row the boat since we all seem to be in the same one.

Omaha is much harder to play in my opinion. The possible hands keep changing as you go with those 4 cards to choose from. And just as your hand keeps changing the opponents' hands do the same.

Oh, and I really get mad at myself when I get 3 or 4 of the cards in the pocket mixed up in my figuring out my hand. It is so hard not to see a straight or flush building when you have say all hearts or JQK in the pocket.

That sounds just like when I lose my head and go all-in in Hold'em! SSssccchhhmmmaaaccckkkk! LOL

I've gone all in thinking I had the nuts flush before and I actually had nothing.  What joy that was...NOT and that's why I always use the 4 colour deck where possible.

I have wondered about using the 4 color deck and I can see that it could definitely help in Omaha, but I resist it because I am afraid if my red cards are not red and black not black I will get even more confused. And I sure don't need any extra confusion.  *-* :o

LOL I can understand that Katt but once you are used to using the 4 colour deck, it does make life a lot easier.  I actually find it hard now with a normal black and red deck.

Have you tried Omaha Hi-Lo yet katt?  That is even more frustrating, but I like it better than just Omaha.

As for the 4-color deck, that is the only way I want to play.  I don't like sites that don't offer it.  Much easier to see what I have.  I am getting old.   8p 8p

Will do Blue! I will try 4 color today sometime...

And medtrans... NO I have not tried Hi-Lo... I am skeered of that one, since I am still so very  confused about plain old Hi... but, its day will come! You may be getting old, but dang, I am already there!

Omaha HiLo or Omaha HiLo8 is a great game if you constantly get rubbish hands like moi!

I'll do a thread on the rules Katt so you can read through them at your leisure when you are ready to give it a go.  If you get rubbish Omaha hands, then this is the game for you.
