Hi Poker Players,

I grew up under the kitchen table. Nearly every weekend my parents would have their poker nite. As a kid i never understood what all the yelling and cussing was about. As i grew up i find myself at my kitchen table playing some of the same old poker games....well maybe not exactly the same.

A couple years ago while playing poker with a group of friends and after a few cocktails i decided to create my own game! Its always dealer choice as to what game will be played. When it got to me i said we are gonna play something alittle different.

Typically it started out as deciding what cards i wanted to be wild. Then it progressed to...if you get a certain card face up...its a re-deal! At first my friends said "what the hell kinda of game is this! Now we play that way all the time. The dealer can make up any rules that they want. Sometimes the rules are so complicated and after a few drinks we have to be told several times what is wild..what card is a re-deal and what card is an automatic win.

The best time we had was around the Christmas holidays. I told the players to choose a Christmas song...everyone chose one. If there song came on while we were playing...no matter who was dealer...the game would stop right there and you automatically win the pot! This was hysterical as we waited with baited breath for our song to come on. Of course there is always that song that nobody likes...so the rules became more interesting...if that song came on...its a re-deal...pot stays on table!

We have had more fun playing this way. What started out as a joke at first has become a regular routine at my kitchen table.

Do you have any fond memories of playing cards at home...if you do, please share them with us!

Hey lips,
Like you, my mom played every Sat night against the boys, and i was right there watching as far back as i can remember. I can remember counting her winnings with her at the end of the night, 8 out of 10 times she played, mom is really good at poker. I couldnt wait till i was able to play... not that i couldnt hang with them on the table at the age of about 12... but i was just to young for there group. When i got old enough to play, it was lights out.... "little georgie" was now 6'3" and could play with the best of them! lol
So many nights mom and i cleaned house... the game didn't last more than a year... they all had enough!
Just lots of great memories from the age of about 5 learning poker, rummy, spades... all that with my single mom!
