  • I decided to compile a list of learning/help/training that is available at various sites.  The help available is generally designed for new players but some sites do offer advanced poker play help.

This will be an ongoing thread and sites will be added continuously.

I'm going to start this thread off with:

Blackchip Poker (USA OK).  This site offers training videos and you will find the link to these videos at the bottom of their poker home page.  Some of the subjects covered are

    Stretch Your Poker Dollar

    Fold Equity

    Low Stakes SitnGos Part 1

    Multitabling

888 Poker (NO USA) offer some very basic instructions on the following:

    Ring Games

    Texas Holdem

    Seven Card Stud

    Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo

    Omaha Hi

    Omaha Hi/Lo

No Limit & Pot Limit Games

    Face2Face

In each section they explain the rules of each type of game, how to join them and how to play in each game.  It is quite a useful tool if you are looking to learn the rules of poker, the betting, showdown etc.

Underneath the list of games, you can find the heading "Poker Tips".  Click on that and you will find some fantastic tips including:

    Mental Preparation & Hand Selection

    The Art of Bluffing

    The Dos and Don'ts

    Sizing up the opposition

Knowing When to Fold and When To Hold

    Location, Location, Location

These are just a few of the 44 available tips.

Of course, I can't bypass the fact that this site is offering £5/$8 absolutely FREE when you sign up.

  • What a wonderful idea! Thanks blue...I for one will be glued to this thread...

    Thanks again!!!!

  • All In Poker (USA OK) offer assistance by "finding your leak".  Basically this means their built in system (Excel boy) will find the errors in your play.

The only let down with this is that you have to play 1000 hands before it will kick in.  Ideal for seasoned players, Excel boy will send you an email after you have played those 1000 required hands and tell you your biggest error in your play, how much it cost you, the pertinent hands and so on.  For beginners, there are likely to be more mistakes and therefore, the advice will not be as "targeted" as it would be for a seasoned player.  Nonetheless, this is a fantastic tool and could prove extremely useful.

Again, it would be remiss of me not to tell you that you can receive 5 free gold chips as a new player.

    ...to be continued

  • What a wonderful idea! Thanks blue...I for one will be glued to this thread...

After I said the words in red above, I started thinking what that would look like... Katt glued to a thread... hmmm Perhaps one of these would fit...

    Ilovethisthread.jpg?f1af933f-932e-4f98-a14c-f6e870e1488aKatonaString.png?c3f3d950-a650-4cd5-9f95-fd6662569053seriouskatt.jpg?7b731430-0fd4-4963-8d83-f9bdccdfbc5b

  • Katt,those are sooooooo cute....love it!!

  • Very apt Katt and cute of course.

The next site that offers limited but useful help is 1bet2bet (USA OK).

Click on Tournament Rules and this will explain how to register, the waiting list, "hand on hand" play and so much more.  Very useful for new tournament players.  This site also explains the rules for all these games:

        7 cards stud

        Omaha Poker

        Omaha high-low

        Poker Stud Caribbean

        Poker 2-7 – three exchanges

        Soko

        Texas Hold'em

        Telcine

    blue

  • The next site which has some very useful tips and is available for everyone to view is 32Red Poker who offer some great tips from their poker pro Angust Dunnington.

To find these great tips just find these links Angus Dunnington> News> Poker News> Poker School

Some of the great topics covered are:

    No Limit: The semi-bluff

    No Limit: The Check Raise

No Limit: Slowplaying a strong hand

    No Limit: Manipulative Poker

    Discipline

These are some really useful tips and the above is just a few of them.

    blue

  • Poker Player Cafe (USA OK) also offer "find your leak" and it is identical to All In Poker however, they also have available, "Be a Better Player".

Under this heading on their website you will find the "Find your Leak" details but you will also find "Ten Commandments of Poker".  The ten commandments of poker is built around ten different areas in the game and rules on how to handle them.  Some of the areas covered:

    Selecting your Starting Hands

    Large Bets

    Continuation Betting

    Bluffing

The final area of help is tracks. This gives specific help to:

    Beginners

    Future Tournament Champion

    Highrollers Club

This basically tells you which tournaments, freerolls etc are suitable to your current level of play.

    blue

  • Bet365 (no USA) have a "poker university" and at the end of each group of learning, you can take a quiz.

    Advanced strategy which covers:

        Outs and Their Importance

        Pot Odds

        Blind Stealing

        Bankroll Management

        Bluffing

At the end of each of these sections there is a quiz to test your learning but you will need to sign up to be able to enter your username in the quiz sections.  If you are USA or any other precluded country for this site, you can still watch and listen to the training videos.

You can find this useful tool via "Poker Toolbox".  A pop-up window will appear (you will need to allow this if you have them blocked).  Under poker toolbox on the popup, you will see "Poker University".  Click on poker university and then you should be able to see the "Enrol Now" tab near the middle of the page.  Click on Enrol Now and a new window will pop up which looks like a laptop.  From there, you will be able to choose which section (as outlined above) you would like to look at.

    blue

Using the blinds to your advantage

  • A rare strategy I came across while playing Poker games:

Poker games needs a specific skill set pertaining to the choice of discarding the cards. In video poker games, you need to play from 1 to 5 coins wherein machine gives you five cards out of which you choose to keep and discard a few. The discarded ones are replaced by the machine and thereafter you are well paid proportional to the value of cards in your hand. Many people misunderstand video poker as an expensive mode of gambling which is not so. It is only mistakes and casual behavior that take heavy toll on players. Don’t hurry while playing as you have infinite time to make decision about your next move. Video poker is the game of intelligence instead sheer excitement as it pretends to be.  :-bd :)
