  • Talk about anything in here to do with a game you had be it a tournament, a sitngo or a ring game.

I thought it would be nice to talk about hands and anything poker in here.  I and of course other poker players, would love to hear about your game, your hand, your thoughts etc.

  • Just wondering what your biggest ever tourney buy in is?

The most I ever paid was £10 which is about $15.  I did win some cash but it wasn't huge although it was a big starting field with about 2000 players.  I think I came 18th.

  • I actually spent $1 on a tourney and I won! I am such a newbie... I guess it is a ways still to WSOP!  woo

Congrats Katt.  Small steps all forward is definitely the way to go and I think you are well on your way to being a great poker player.  $1 is a lot if you normally enter freerolls or small buyins like 10c.

    Very well done.

  • Largest tourney I entered I think was $11.  Maybe twice in the last few weeks.  Had a little bankroll in my account and thought no problem spending a little more.  Donked out as usual.

  • :( Well I just bombed out of my $500 weekly tournament, I came in 226th out of 1302 entries... maybe next time!   8)

  • Love the pic Rosebud (RoseKattbudboots).

You are sooooo cheeky Katt.  I love it.  :-*

  • BluebootsRoseKattbud...Oh man don't get me started  LOL I just had to add you blue!!

  • Played a $5.50 - 10 seat sit n go last night.  Pays 3 places.

We are down to 4 players.  Blinds are 100/200.  I am dealer.  First 1 folds.  I have AJc and raise to 600.  The SB (chip leader) calls.  BB folds.

Flop is 7h - As - Qs.  SB bets 1583 and I go all in with 983 chips.  He shows Kc - Qd.

Turn is 5h.  River is Qc.

    Once again........out.

blue, would you have done the same?

    medtrans

  • I don't know what blue would do, but I would have gone the same way you did on that hand. Unless I did one of my faint of heart, head for cover moves. That's where the luck of the draw comes in... that last queen could just as well been an Ace... ah well that's poker.

    Cheekily,

    budbluebootsrosekatt

  • I definitely would have done the same medtrans.  You made the right decision and once again the RNG works in the chip leaders favour.

    Unlucky.

    BluebootsRoseKattbud

  • yes,we all agree..I would have done the same.  Soooo.......MedKattbudBluebootsRose...LOL

  • Here is an interesting perfect flop for fish which I had called originally but then one fish raised all in and then the other fish called.  I had a good hand but not a good enough hand to wager all my chips on when all I had was 2 over cards.  The flop has come down and that is the point that they both go all in.

As you can see from the first screenshot, the top card on the table is 7 high, there are two spades and two connected cards.  The perfect hand for a fish (or two).

The second screenshot, both players have shown their hands as they are both all in.

The third screenshot shows the turn/river and despite the 72 off hitting trips, he loses to a straight.

I hope these screenies assist in some way to recognize a perfect fish flop when you see one.

  • OMG blue... you just made me re-live so many of the hands I have seen lately and how they play out... this is the crazy-making part of playing poker in these tournaments... I had a guy sitting at my left going all in no matter what he had, hand after hand, just aggravating... but the worst part was that when I challenged and went toe-to-toe with him on one hand he won and I was out and the guy sitting on the other side of him congratulates him and says, "I guess your aggressive play paid off." I wanted to say DON'T ENCOURAGE HIM because he will think he's a good player with a good strategy... aye karumba!

Thanks for the set of screenies that demonstrate this so perfectly!

    katt

  • Thanks Katt.  It happens all too often.

Are you playing at True Poker still?  If so, how is it going.  It's a day of freerolls there today.

    blue

  • Hi blue, actually I have been playing more at Bodog Poker... had 6 free 100K Qualifier Tournament Tickets there. I have 1 left. Next one is around noon on Saturday. Tonights was pretty exciting for me... I finished in 17th place out of 258 players that started. Unfortunately only the top 10 got tickets to the Semi-Final... so close ... not bad for a player with my lack of experience... I still find myself looking at hands and going "What the heck do I do now?" But my instincts seem to carry me through. Working real hard on not letting the All-in players get to me how ever many times they do it. Finding that if I just hold back someone will knock them out eventually because they just don't know when to stop.

I may be out of touch a while... I am leaving in the morning and going to visit my sister for about 9 or 10 days and she lives in the mountains about 5 miles out a dirt logging road, backed up against a National Forest. A very peaceful place to be... pretty remote... and the sis is an avid poker player so maybe I will watch her and pick up some tips as she has been playing for years now. So, I may or may not be able to spend time on the computer... not to worry though, I will be back.

    katt

  • It's great to hear you're doing so well Katt.  You are definitely a natural.

I hope you have a wonderful time at your sister's - it sounds a wonderful place to be.  Enjoy your time with her and enjoy watching her play.

Take care and hurry back cos I'm going to miss you.  :-*

    blue

  • Thanks blue, it will be a wonderful break from all the stress and worry I have been going through... just imagine, on weekdays everyone goes to work except me and the dogs... wind in the trees, the sound of a nearby creek and the muted roar of the river a bit further away... The crackle of a fire in the wood stove when it gets chilly, I can't wait to get there...

I will miss you too blue, you keep things running smoothly here while I am gone!  :'X :-*\

    katt

  • It sounds like a little piece of heaven Katt.  I hope this break has the desired effect and eases away your stresses and strains of what must be a difficult and stressful time for you.

    Take care Katt.

  • I played 3 x $1 sitngo's whilst I was doing other things and I lost all of em.

Why does it go like that sometimes?  Anyone else experience losing a load of games - even though you are doing everything right.

Example I had QQ and raised all in on the button and dealer had A6 and called it.  Ace came on the turn (after a long wait) (RNG fix?) and I lost.

If you figure out why it goes like that sometimes please let me in on the secret. After my small win the other day, I went back to play with my $3 bankroll and got smacked the same way you describe in 3 games in a row. I have an AJ off and I get wiped out by a 10 2 off, then I have KQ suited and get creamed by an A2 off. Can't remember the 3rd one, except that I had it until I got drowned in the river...

    katt

  • I wish I could figure it out and hopefully, one day I will.

I will say that sites love fish because they win with rubbish and take all the good players money; they then deposit and then the good players take all the fish's money and then they deposit......and so the cycle goes on.

    Could it be that?

  • I think you may have something there blue... makes perfect sense. I also think that it is the RNG that causes a lot of it. Those all-in folks that fight for that early lead seem to do no wrong if they get it. Then they win on the river with rubbish every hand.

    katt

  • I agree - they know they will get lucky with their rubbish.

You play cash games at Americas Cardroom?  If so, what is the RNG like there - is it the same?

    blue

  • No, blue, I don't play cash games or any other games at Americas Cardroom, so I can't help you there. Are they the ones with the "new" type of software that is supposed to be better than the regular RNG?

    katt

  • They are the same software (as far as I can tell ) as True Poker and true poker have the better RNG.

Do you play the few and far between freerolls on there?

    blue

  • I have indeed played some of those at True Poker, but you are so right about them few and far between! I don't remember how it went last time I did play one. I will keep it in mind on the next one and see what I think of the new RNG there.

I look forward to hearing about that then Katt.

  • I truly miss the 90 man KOs on FT. they were so easy to beta and so much fun.

Here were my stats for just the 90 mans. If I could 1 game back it would be these

Won        Profit    ROI        Avg Buy in                    Games

    90  $3,672 $1,369 59% $6.64     86    0% 50/347   14% 6/13/40/28/12

  • Those are impressive stats ohmesohrny.  It must be so frustrating not being able to play these.

  • 3rd place out of 180 entrants ;) $9,23 for $0.50 buy-in!

    nice_9_bucks_for_3rd_$0.50_buy_in_;.jpg

  • Great job bigdk.

Are you intending on entering larger buyins?

  • tried a 2.50 one but a donk made me short with 72 off he somehow made a fullhouse 7s full of deuces I went nuts at him because I had queens under the gun raise of x8 bbs and cocky bastard still called me! He didn't see what he had done wrong I said you should fold that crap to any raise and in general its an awful hand. then a guy put me out, again calling a raise out of pos he had 45 suited and couldn't fold it flop all low cards apart from a 10 I bet 500 he called then on turn I put in really big bet as I was sure I had best hand then he shoved and shows 3 fours and crushed my jacks and 4s with 3 4s!! Told him straight aswell you shouldn't have even been in the hand with 45 where do these idiots come from?!

  • Nicely done Bigdk!

  • That sucks big time.

Why do these idiots call with such rubbish.  Was he a calling station throughout the game?  Trouble is with those types, you will never get them off a hand if they are calling stations.  The only action with those players is to all in pre flop, that will usally stop them.

  • I did see him fold a few so what the hell was worse than 72 off lol? I am baffled? Went so on tilt last night one guy called a big raise with a9 off paired his ace typically then from there every big hand I had got crushed by stupid calls and couldn't get read on them as I was moved tables alot thats what happens when you are good they move ya around ;)

  • I can "feel" the frustration in your words and I fully understand.  Some days you can't do anything right even if you do everything right if you know what I mean.
