Does size matter?
« on: June 22, 2010, 10:50:36 AM »
Hi Poker Players,

Just like the size of your wallet can intimidate some people, does the same hold true for the size of your poker stack?

One of the first things i will notice when playing at a table is the size of the players stack. The big stack player is either very reserved with the lead or the opposite....a bully. The short stack either waits patiently for a good hand or tries to steal pots by going all in.

I'm curious to know how players play when in the position of the large stack or short stack at the table. I know for the most part for me if i am the sitting pretty with a large stack i tend to hold on to that lead and play more reserved til the final table.

When i am a short stack i tend to want to steal more pots by going all in. This is in the event i have just enough chips where it can make a dent in a players stack.

What is your strategy.......does size really matter?

I'm even tighter when I have the lead but I will bully if I'm in a hand and think I might be losing.  That said, it doesn't happen too often.  I don't like being in the lead, I prefer to be top 25%.  I find that I can still play my game and steal a few blinds when I'm positioned in the top quarter of players that are left.

When I'm short stacked, I will generally wait for a pair to go all in and either steal the blinds, double up or get knocked out.  I won't do it when UTG though, it's just too dangerous.

I'm a tight player either way but tighter when the big stack.  Yes - I think that size matters.
