Hi Poker Crew! Like Dorothy on the road to Emerald City, I’m beginning a journey to Poker Town. I know slots and I know bingo but I am not poker savvy. I’ve sat around the kitchen table playing poker for pretzels asking what beats what. I always needed that one person to show my hand to for guidance. This has got to stop and I’m on a mission to develop some serious skillz! I wish I could click my heels together to become an avid player but this ain’t the Land of Oz and I ain’t Dorothy. As embarrassing as it may be, I’ll share my progress with you brick by brick. If nothing else, we can have some good laughs. The first stop on my yellow brick road is PlayersOnly Poker. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Interesting thread Froggy and I'm looking forward to your progress. There are some fantastic starting tools/tips in the beginners guide to online poker. Please let me know if it is of use to you and if there is anything else you would like to see added. I think this thread should be stickyed so we can all find it easily...if you don't mind. blue

Hello Poker Crew! I decided to switch and try out Cake Poker since US players are now allowed to play there too! I hit the tables and I have to admit I was really nervous because it was my first time at taking this game seriously. I just knew my inexperience would show so I chose a table that wasn’t completely full. Less people to look silly in front of was my thinking. After I figured out how to bet, which was a process, I knew I needed one more for a flush after the flop. I raised at this point. A couple of players went toe to toe with me but phewwwwww the river was good to me! I scooped up a nice neat little pot of 292. I’m still learning what beats what and I’m working on learning when to raise. That’ll come, I know. It cards were dealt in my favor but generally speaking, should I have waited to raise? Do you think I played it right? I was jumping up and down when I won. Got to keep practicing.

Nice win Froggy. The flop was a great flop for you. You had lots of outs - 9 clubs and 4x6s for the straight so you had [technically] 13 outs. However, seeing that 2nd 5 arrive could have been dangerous A 5 in the hand of one of your opponents and pairing any other card on the table would have given a full house which would have beaten you. Nice to see the club on the river. I think a "test" bet on the flop to see if anyone was holding anything of value would have been a good idea (if you didn't bet that is). How did you find the game Froggy - did you enjoy it? Would you prefer a sitngo 6 seater or 10 seater? blue

Awesome froggy not bad at all! I think you played it pretty darn well and the river saved ya at the end. It will take time to learn a good technique that suits you.
For now you are probably playing very conservatively til you build up some confidence. You are going to be a pro in no time!

I'm not too sure about all this outs business nor do I know what I prefer at this stage. I agree lips that it's going to take some time to gain confidence and develop sneaky techniques. We shall she how things go
