RUSHING AT FULL TILT AND ANOTHER SLOW BONUS

Monday the 7th of June 2010

After playing for a few months at the smaller sites i finally signed up to one of the big boys, and they didn't disappoint. Their bonus isn't exactly making me a fortune, but the good thing about it is they give you plenty of time to clear it. I started with $600US so i could get the full bonus - my bankroll is now sitting at $1600, with only $40 of that coming from bonuses.

But rather then give you a dull run down on full tilt, i thought something much more valuable would be a strategy guide to rush poker. Because it's quite new people are still trying to work out the best strategy for the game, so now is the time to clean up.

Personally i don't like rush cash games, unless you are patient enough to write notes on everyone. I found it a cheap and dirty form of poker, but i was pleasantly surprised when they released rush poker tournaments. You can get through a tournament at the speed of a turbo without the game turning into a game of bingo.

I thought the best strategy for rush (tournament)poker would be quite obvious to all, but luckily people are creatures of instinct and no one really seemed to adjust to it. So here is the secret that shouldn't be a secret!! Fold and fold alot.

The game is all about what your stack is in proportion to the blinds. Early on blinds are low, so you want to see as many hands as possible. The quickest way to do this is to fold almost everything. If your on bb and the blinds are 30, don't worry about calling an extra 30 chips because its good value. Getting stuck in a hand with average hands will cost you valuable time while the blinds are low, so fold your 109 suited and aj that normally you love so much because your aa will almost definitely come.

When your stack is more then 50 times the bb just stick to the top 7 hands. ak, aq, aa, kk, qq, jj, 1010. And don't worry you won't run into a shortage of these hands like you might sticking to this strategy in a normal tournament. In one particular tournament the blinds go up ever 5 minutes, which is the equivalent of 25 minutes in a regular tournament. I managed to play close to 1000 hands in this tournament, and was never short stacked. The odds are you will get aa 8 times in one game if you play this many hands, which is hard to fathom until you actually play.

But most rush tournaments have 3 minute blind increases, which means you have to go as fast as your can early on. Then once the blinds catch up to your stack you can go back to playing your normal game. If you do get short stacked around the money, its quite easy to slow the game down to a normal pace by clicking the sit out next hand button. This will let you watch the hand play out. You can't do this all the time though so mix that in with running your clock down and you'll usually sneak into the money without compromising your chances to win.

Thats pretty much all there is too it, in rush poker you can control how fast you play and thats where you have the biggest advantage over your opponents. This guide will get you close to the money, then just use your normal poker savvy to finish them off.

Cheers all thanks for reading, now rush to tilt and make some money.

Big Deanus
