It has been reported that online poker in California is unlikely to happen this year due to the August 31 deadline for new legislation. Democrat Darrell Steinberg stated that it is still possible, however it is unlikely to happen in the last four weeks of the current session. In later news, things look more hopeful because of the attempt of one tribal and card room alliance to reach a compromise.
The new reigning Government in Schleswig-Holstein spoke about the liberalisation of gambling and whilst they announced they were against it, they are now sweet talking the operators who currently hold licenses for gambling. They have said that they are "obliged" to issue online poker sites with licenses.
Alex Dreyfus, the Chiligaming founder, is reported to be attempting to get into the poker ranking sector by buying Global Poker Index ranking system from the Pinnacle group. He plans to rebrand as GPIZokay Entertainment.
Kahnawake Gaming Commission have issued a statement about its former licensee Blanca Games, owner of Absolute Poker and UltimateBet. ""The proposed settlement requires all of Blanca’s assets to be forfeited to the United States. The US Marshalls’ office will be mandated to liquidate Blanca’s assets. However, there will be no distribution of the net proceeds from the liquidation pending the resolution of claims filed by other parties who have asserted an ownership interest in Blanca’s assets." which doesn't look good for players who are owed money.
The British Poker Awards site has gone live and votes can now be cast covering many categories such as Best Cash Player, Best Tournament Player, Best Online Player and Poker Personality of the Year. Votes must be made by 17th September 2012
Party Poker have announced they are now offering fast-fold poker to their players. It is currently only available in play money beta mode but is likely to go live within a couple of weeks.
PokerStars have handed over $225 million representing part of the huge $547 million to be paid to the US Governement in relation to the Full Tilt Poker takeover. The clock is now ticking and PokerStars must relaunch Full Tilt within the next 90 days i.e. by 6th November.
