The recent news of the FBI indictment of four of the biggest poker sites namely Pokerstars, Full Tilt, UB.com and Absolute Poker, has come as a huge shock not just to the poker industry itself but also to poker players who make their living at these online poker sites.
So is the seizure a good or bad thing and what will happen next? More USA friendly poker sites being targeted by the FBI? Legalization and regulation? At this point in time, whatever is said is speculation and hope of a future for American poker players.
The remaining USA friendly sites will see a huge rise in their numbers which can only lead to bigger and better offers from them as they try to capture the market. Even the non USA friendly sites are making better offers and confirming how safe and secure their site is as a result of these indictments.
The knock-on effect of what has happened over the weekend is huge and only time will reveal the way forward regarding online gambling in the US.
As so many have quoted, the land of the free is certainly not the land of the free but hopefully, time and patience will bring legalization for all who choose to play online poker and US citizens will be able to choose where they play. After all, the game of Texas Holdem was created in America and it belongs in America.
