I just wanted to talk about suited hands and the amount of weight some players give these hands, no matter what the cards are.
Picture this. You're in a game and you have pocket Aces. You do the usual big raise pre-flop (unless of course you like to slow play your aces) and a player decides to re-raise you all in. You call their raise and reveal your cards. Your opponent reveals his cards and shows you 4c 5c. You're probably thinking to yourself you've got this one in the bag and then the awful thing happens, three clubs turn up and your aces are cracked.
Why on earth would someone re-raise you all in with such poor cards. The odds of winning with pocket aces pre-flop against this hand was 78.14% leaving their odds at 21.44% and 0.41% for a tie. With unsuited cards, my odds of winning are 4% higher although I understood that suited cards only give you a 2% extra chance of winning. So basically 1 in 5 hands will hit the flush. If 2 clubs hit the flop and one of them is an ace, my odds of winning are dropped to 67% so I still have the advantage but all it would take is for one more club and no pairs on the board for me to lose. They have 9 chances and I have 13 chances (another ace or any other card to pair on the board). If the turn is still not a club, my odds increase to 77%.
Losing with aces to a flush on the river or even a flush on the flop is so frustrating but I think what is more frustrating is the dire cards that players are calling with in your modern game of online poker and suited cards, regardless of what they are seem to be a huge favourite.
