Week 3 - The Pizza Oven

Sunday the 4th of April 2010

This weeks blog is dedicated not to my weeks online tournament play, but the unfortunate waitress at Star City Casino who cost herself 15 days work, and cost me $10.

I'll just make a quick summary of my tournament play this week first. I played limited tournaments this week, quite a few Omaha Hilo tourneys where I bubbled a few times near the money, and a few lower limit ($20) hold'em tourneys. It was a frustrating and stilted week where I think by memory I only cashed once, but ended the week only down $60 so it could have been worse.

Probably the most annoying hand was some donk (slang for donkey) who I caught out stealing with 87, but I'll save that hand for my hand of the week in the forums. The most fun I had playing poker this week was Easter Sunday, where I was joined by the esteemed co-owner of LatestPokerBonuses (Josh) for some impromptu cash table poker at Star City Casino.

Starting with a stack of $100 we both plonked ourselves on a cash table, after 30mins Josh had built on his starting stack quite a bit, but mine was going down and it took a few minutes to realize that, yes, paying for drinks with poker chips would reduce my stack.

It was then that, after a few drinks imbibed I began to ponder curiously the large scratch one friendly blonde waitress had on the back of her arm. Perhaps it is a reflection of my perverted mind, but I was convinced she had incurred it performing some nefarious activity. Josh was unconvinced and believed it to be the result of some innocent accident, thus a $10 wager was struck.

Now back to poker. To set the stage we were playing on a $2/$1 cash table. In late position I raise to $10 with K-10 , I get 2 callers including Josh. The flop is 9-5-2 with 2 clubs , I make a continuation bet of $20, Josh calls and the other person raises all-in $180. With only $24 left behind I am pot committed, and have to pray my opponent has either a small flush draw, or some hand where I have ok odds i.e. A-9, J-9.

Josh folds what I later learn was top pair, and the best hand. I call and my opponent turns over the best hand I can hope for in a lower flush draw J-6. No jack 6 or club hits and I rake in a very decent pot with K high.

Now back to that blonde waitress. In the hour between the bet and the confirmation of how she was scratched, I begin to realize that a scratch inccurred by a human hand would probably show 3,4,5 scratch finger marks and my assumptions had grown dubious.

This was confirmed, as she reveals she tripped over a pizza oven, and had 15 days off work because of it. The scratch didn\'t seem warranted of 15 days off work, but the mashed up teeth that were seen when she opened her mouth definately were, and being $10 lighter in pocket did not seem to compare to this young waitress\' unfortunate accident with the pizza oven.

I asked Josh whether we should tip her? His response, "Ill give her a tip, watch out for the pizza oven!"

Thanks Y'all til next week,

Rob
