Bwin's Consolidation Of Online Poker Assets Concludes

Apr 11, 2009
Farewell to two Internet gambling veterans Bwin, the major European online gambling group which owns the Ongame Network and veteran Internet brands Poker Room.com and Casino Room.com, continued its consolidation exercise this week (see previous InfoPowa reports) with the closure of the two websites, having invited players to transfer to its main site. Poker Room has been around for almost a decade and was a member of the Ongame Network, but the notification has gone out that the operation will close its virtual doors Tuesday. Affiliates were advised earlier this week that April 14th is the closure date. In an email, Bwin-Ongame wrote: “I would like to inform you that the option to play poker on PokerRoom and CasinoRoom will be disabled on Tuesday the 14th of April. The remaining players will only have the option to transfer to bwin after they log in.” The moves do not impact US players, as Ongame - the fifth largest online poker network - exited the US market in the wake of the UIGEA in 2006.
