FTOPS XII Ends With Main Event

May 20, 2009
12 days of action culminates in main event and a $432 400 win for Internet player The twelfth edition of Full Tilt Poker's online series of poker (FTOPS) ended with a disappointingly low turnout for the main event, resulting in the guaranteed prize pool of $2.5 million having to be topped up by $200 000. Entries for the $535 buy-in event numbered 4 581, with the usual slew of top-rated international players and online aces in the line-up. Industry observers have opined that the failure to fill up the guaranteed prizepool from entries was caused by the introduction of the new miniFTOPS main event, which ran almost in parallel and cost considerably less to enter, with a still attractive prize pool of $500 000 (see previous InfoPowa reports). Several FTOPS prizepools were impacted by the new miniFTOPS, which attracted high signups, thought to be to the detriment of the regular events. In the end it was Pocketownage420 who took the honours and the $432 400 main prize after leading in chips and facing azzabentonaces in the heads up. The second placed azzabentonaces took home $262 500, and the six-figure payouts extended down to the fifth position in the final table. The miniFTOPS main event was taken by TesT_Tickler with a first place prize of $92 868 and change.
