Isaia Takes World Poker Tour Venice

Feb 11, 2011
Local player enters a list of prestigious title winners As the World Poker Tour Venice, held at the famous Casino di Venezia in Italy, drew to an end, it was quite clear that the title will belong to a local player, Alessio Isaia, who then became the first Italian to win a major World Poker Tour title. It was no easy job, however, as in the difficult heads up he had to struggle for 8 hours to defeat the second placed Szabolcs Mayer from Hungary. This title provides Isaia with a place at the $25,500 event of the WPT World Championship at Bellagio, a Tiffany bracelet and the first prize of EUR380 000. To this, he commented: "I'm very happy. I've been trying to win a big tournament for three or four years. I came close in the EPT but I never achieved it. I'm even more happy to win it in Italy, my home country, it is really special. I'm very very tired. We played for eight hours heads-up, which was exhausting. Mayer was a very good opponent. The money will enable me to play other tournaments, but I'm more happy with the title and the bracelet." Unfortunately for Mayer, the chip lead in the heads up switched in favor of his opponent, but he still managed to take home a hefty prize of EUR228 990, awarded for the second position out of the 523 competitors.
