Marine officer may serve as an example It seems like some skill and boldness to take risks can really pay off, at least in the world of poker. This is proved by a story about a Marine officer who earned a lot of money lately. Namely, after spending some eight months in Afghanistan, a US Marine Captain Robert Shortway treated himself to a three-week gambling mission, which resulted in a hefty cashout of over $268,000 at the World Series of Poker. First, he agreed with his friend and fellow poker fan Justin Zaki to go to the World Poker Tour Main Event in Florida, where Zaki scored a third placing worth $413, 000, and shared the prize with his friend. Then, with the cash, Captain Shortway went to Las Vegas, where within a single week he will have cashed out on two WSOP events – he already took down a $263,655 third placing in a $1,500 NLHE competition, and the other one will be in event 35, the $5,000 Six Max Pot Limit Omaha competition, where he managed to place to the last 21 survivors, currently holding position 20 at level 18 on the second day of the event, which means he will receive at least another $16 000.
