…Lykov takes event 54 Things seem to heat up before the much anticipated main event, and the last competitions before it have seen some fierce action. This includes event 54: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em, taken down by Max Lykov, who outplayed some exquisite competition to take the bracelet and a $648,880 payday. In the efficient heads-up he defeated Dror Michaelo, sending him home with a second-placing paycheck of $401,296. As for event 55: $50,000 Poker Player's Championship, only three players were left late on July 6, with Phil Hellmuth still in the running for his twelfth WSOP bracelet. At level 26, the situation was the following: Brian Rast was leading on 8,225,000, chased by Phil Hellmuth on 6,620,000, and Minh Ly on 4,355,000. Whether Hellmuth can pull it off and earn the bracelet in the fierce competition, it remains to be seen. In terms of Event 56: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em, on the second day it welcomed back 463 survivors of Day 1. However, only 80 of them remained at the end of the day, at level 18, which saw Bryn Kenney in the chip lead on 600,000, chased by Selin Oulmekki on 570,000. And finally, Event 57: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Split saw Day 2 start with 173 players, Gary Bolden holding the chip lead, and followed by a number of big names, including Mike Matusow (20,700), Huck Seed (14,400), David “Doc” Sands (33,600), Erik Seidel (57,500), Allen Kessler (58,500), Chris Bjorin (53,400), David Bach (49,900), Phil Laak (39,400), and Nick Binger (48,400). Only 41 of them reached level 15, when the chip lead shifted to Phil Laak on 330,000.
