New pro poker organization signs with CBS This has been a successful week for Epic Poker League, a new professional poker players' organization led by former World Series of Poker chief Jeffrey Pollack and top international poker pro Annie Duke, as the body closed an important deal with the TV network CBS for an undisclosed consideration. What this implies is the coverage of five poker tournaments for the duration of 20 hours in total, including a $1 million free-roll no-limit Texas Hold 'em championship to be held in February in Las Vegas. It has been further specified that famous sports announcer Pat O'Brien will host the programming, and that his co-host will be Ali Nejad, who was a commentator for previous poker television coverage including the National Heads-Up Poker Championship and "Poker After Dark." According to a CBS spokesman, most of the Epic tournaments will air on Velocity, a Discovery Communications network that is to be launched in October. The league plans to gather only the biggest players by means of selection through past results and recent wins in major live tournaments. In a comment on the deal, Pollack said: "Both companies share our commitment to providing a world-class stage and significant new exposure for poker's most talented live tournament players."
