Washington DC Reaches The Public For Online Gambling Bill

Earlier this year a budget council meeting passed a bill for legalization of online gambling in Washington DC as the first US allowable state. As efforts in the US to pass online gambling in the past caused intervention, this was no exception. The bill was put on hold due to an outcry of opponents who felt there was insufficient public consultation. Officials have organized public meetings in all eight wards. The consultations will take place between August 16th to September 14th. Lottery Director Buddy Roogrow told the Washington Post this week “As of now, it's in the law. … Lacking other direction, we're still moving forward in what we hope is the most responsible way,” Roogow stressed that these ward meetings held by lottery officials with a PowerPoint presentation of the i-gaming program should eliminate any neighborhood concerns. “These are not brick-and-mortar casinos,” he said. “There isn't an impact on traffic. There's not an impact on zoning regulations.” The passage of the online gambling law would raise money for city coffers by allowing Poker and Blackjack to be played at home and designated hotels or other areas at “trusted sites”.
