Cannes Police Arrests Four Poker Fraudsters

Three Italians and a Frenchman brought in

Even though the French town of Cannes hit many a headline these days as a place where the World Series of Poker Europe is being held, this time the reason it appeared in the news is completely unrelated to the competition.

Namely, an announcement came that the French police arrested three Italians and a Frenchman in Cannes, based on charges that they used invisible ink to cheat at live poker at the Les Princes casino.

The Frenchman is apparently a casino employee, whereas the Italians were players dealt hands from a deck marked in invisible ink, which they could see by wearing special contact lenses. All four were brought into custody after “winning” EUR30,000 ($41,200).

According to the police spokesman, this type of fraud is well known in casinos in the United States but it is quite new to France.
