US team led by Hellmuth takes the glory
This year's Caesars Cup in which two 5-player teams from Europe and America competed saw the US team, led by Phil Hellmuth, take down the event and pay back to Europeans for their last year's victory.
This time, the Euro team was captained by Bertrand Grospellier, who selected the high quality team that comprised Tony G, Jake Cody, Gus Hansen and Max Lykov. On the other side, Hellmuth's victorious team consisted of Johnny Chan, Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier and Ben Lamb.
The competition was played out in three phases – in the first one two players from each team played against each other using similar chip stacks and hands but with alternating players on each street of action, and blinds going up every 10 minutes; in the second, another two players from each team faced off with the same chip stacks, but alternate hands; and in the third and final phase, a heads up format was played, and this is where Chan faced and defeated Grospellier, and
Hellmuth took down Lykov, bringing the cup into the hands of the Team USA.
