Update: Hollywood Star in Poker Lawsuit Settlement
Tobey Maguire reaches settlement The lawsuit initiated by the bankruptcy trustees of Brad Ruderman a hedge fund investor, who is currently in jail for a ponzi scheme, against a Hollywood star Tobey Maguire has apparently seen a happy ending as the actor managed to reach a favorable settlement. Others included in the suit related to Ruderman who allegedly led High Stakes Texas Hold'em underground poker sessions, are celebrities such as Nick Cassavetes, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Gabe Kaplan. It has been found out from court documents that Maguire has agreed to pay $80 000 of the claimed $311 000 in winnings to settle the lawsuit. Apparently, he noted that he had also lost $170 000 to Ruderman and that he only agrees to the settlement, despite the fact that he "strongly disputes that he violated any laws, rules or regulations in regard to participating in the poker games", because fighting the case would prove to be more costly. It has been reported that fourteen of the twenty-two people named in the suit have settled their cases.
