No Dismissal of Black Friday Poker Indictment?
Chad Elie and John Campos not to see case dismissed at this point A pre-trial hearing has been held in Manhattan this week about the Black Friday indictments, at which the US District Judge Lewis Kaplan indicated that it is unlikely that he will dismiss the case involving Pokerstars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker. This news comes after two defendant's legal representatives, those of e-processors Chad Elie and John Campos, tried to see the charges dismissed based on their argument that the federal Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act prohibiting financial transactions with 'illegal' online gambling operators does not apply to poker. According to Judge Kaplan, he would rule later on the motion, adding that a trial against eleven defendants, if held, would begin March 12. The eleven persons have been accused of bank fraud, money laundering and illegal gambling through the online companies PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker.
