Pateychuk outplays 571 opponents
This week saw the end of the Euro 3,500 buy-in WPT Prague, which gathered 571 entrants, of which a young, 22-year-old Russian player Andrey Pateychuk was the best. The young pro has an impressive half-year behind him, during which he finished 15th in the World Series of Poker main event, took down a massive prize of $937,530 in the EPT San Remo, and now won the WPT Prague’s main prize of EUR468,200 and a $25,000 seat in the WPT Championship next year.
However, the last tournament did not turn out to be too smooth for Pateychuk, who arrived late, only to find his 120 000 starting stack significantly diminished. However, his disciplined style did him a big favor here, as he gradually boosted his stack and managed to reach the final table along with Adria Balaguer, Stanislaw Kretz, Benjamin Pollak, Sigurd Eskelund and Russell Carson.
In the heads-up, he faced formidable Adria Balaguer of Spain, who at the tame held a 14 to 1 chip advantage. Still, after two hours of intense play, Pateychuk found himself in the winning position, escorting the Spaniard to his comforting runner-up prize.
