Popular show no more
An announcement came this week that the once highly popular show High Stakes Poker is to be dropped from the GSN schedule from January 2 2012.
An explanation for the move apparently lies in a big drop in audience ratings. The show started airing back in 2006, and over the years it hosted a number of top international players such as Jennifer Harman, Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Guy Laliberte and Doyle Brunson, featuring in the show's NLHE high stakes cash game format which was initially presented by Gabe Kaplan.
This year, however, Kaplan has been replaced by comedian Norm MacDonald, but the success was not a smashing one, and when to it one adds the Black Friday effects on online poker giants, there's the sufficient explanation for the show's lack of success.
