Tapie’s Wembley poker tournament project to be held in May 2013
An announcement came this week from Groupe Bernard Tapie that it is postponing its International Stadium Poker Tour Wembley project until the end of May next year.
The tournament was to be held at the new Wembley stadium near London and it was promoted as a massive Euro 600 buy-in live tournament with supporting online satellite infrastructure.
The expected numbers for the event amounted to 30,000 players, which is why it was referred to by the organizers as “the mother of all poker tournaments, played on tablets from the stands.”
It appears that the original plan was to reduce the number of entrants to around 10 percent of the initial player field, and then move them to the playing field to compete for a place at the final table.
The tournament was promoted as featuring a massive planned prize pool of Euro 20 million. Yet, it will obviously have to wait until next year, especially having in mind that Groupe Bernard Tapie does not even have a poker operation up and running yet.
