Remote gambling champions welcome the new 'ante-only' format
Internet Poker Pro Greg “DuckU” Hobson triumphed in a new format introduced in this year’s World Series of Poker Event 49 - $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em Ante Only which apparently fits remote gambling players.
This is the first WSOP piece of jewelry for the US player who also earned the main prize of $256,691 increasing his career earnings to ca. $4.5 million to date.
The event attracted 939 players, a number of which were renowned names in the online gaming circles, confirming that this competition format is very popular.
The play was at times rather slow as players were getting accustomed to the new format, but there was no lack of excitement at the final table and heads up games.
Both Hobson and his equally skilled opponent Mike "UNCC" Sowers entered the heads-up game with the pretty much even chip counts. It was Hobson who eventually managed to gain the advantage and increase his lead to around 3 to 1. Following the dinner break, Sowers was defeated by his better rival in short order.
The second prize of $158,887 went to Sowers, while other finalists received the following amounts:
John Hayes – $99,409
Harrison Gimbel – $72,155
Eugene Du Plessis – $53,267
Mike "Timex" McDonald – $39,931
Seth Davies – $30,373
Sameer Aljanedi – $23,413
Justin “stealthmunk” Schwartz – $18,292
