After the great success it saw at this year’s World Series of Poker, the million dollar buy-in charity tournament Big One for One Drop will be returning in 2014, announced the brain behind the event, a billionaire and avid poker player Guy Laliberte.
He stated this week that this year’s inaugural event raised $10 million for charity, of which over a half went to One Drop, a charity that fights poverty by supporting access to clean water. As a result, One Drop invested the $5.3 million it received from the event into clean water projects in Honduras, El Salvador and West Africa.
“We took the concept of a $1 million poker tournament and turned it into the most successful poker initiative ever held. As a result, over 100,000 people will be positively impacted,” said Laliberte.
The first Big One for One Drop was won by poker pro Antonio Esfandiari, who took home the biggest poker cash prize ever - over $18 million.
