Additional Poker Licenses Granted in Denmark
New regulations surrounding online poker were introduced to the public of Denmark in 2013 and 2013 has lead the Danish Gambling Authority to grant 25 additional licensees to operators. Five of these operators are located within the country while the remaining twenty are offshore. Licenses will remain in effect for a total of 5 years. There is a maximum profit limit in place for these online gambling sites of $175,000. In 2012 we saw the Danish Gambling Authority restrict gambling operators they were not in compliance with local regulations. Tina Olsen of the DGA's legal division said, “The fact that 20 illegal websites have been blocked in 2012 illustrates that the DGA performs its obligation to monitor the Danish gambling market in order to protect both consumers and the legal operators on the market.” An increased tax rate isn't unusual in European jurisdictions. Licensed operators in Europe must have the cash flow to sustain a business in this market. Larger, more profitable companies will be able to make their way in the Denmark and stand to make a substantial profit from gamblers in Denmark. Online sports betting is not part of this deal and no online licenses have been issued at this time. Poker operators are able to run their online poker rooms internationally and give Danish players a rewarding gaming experience.
