Students Compete in MBA Tournament to Land a Job at Caesars
Business students seeking employment at Caesars Entertainment Corp. were practicing their best poker faces. Almost 300 master of business administration students and alumni played in a three-day Texas Hold'em poker contest last in hopes of landing a job. Hiring managers and corporate executives mingled with the potential candidates during breaks. The annual MBA tournament is a recruitment tool used to bring out the critical thinking ability and social aptitude among other qualities required to make it in the industry. “We like to see analytical people,” Tijuana Plant of human resources said. “Poker players are analytical and are willing to take strategic risk, and that is what we're looking for.” Caesars hosted a networking reception followed by a two-hour presentation regarding corporate culture. There were 20 students given formal interviews to get a spot in 10-week management trainee program and $16,000 paycheck. “We're not selling insurance. This is a fun industry, and we're selling a lifestyle,” Plant said. “We're watching for whether they're not having a good time at all and just focusing on the job, or if they're having fun and looking for a job at the same time. It's kind of our test.”
