WPT Venice Goes to WSOP Bracelet Holder
This weekend saw the end of the Euro 3,300 buy-in World Poker Tour Venice at Casino Di Venezia, where the honors went to the hands of a World Series of Poker bracelet holder Rocco Palumbo (24) from Genova, Italy, along with the main prize of Euro 140,000. On his way to the new title, Palumbo outplayed 172 other players despite being among the short stacks on a final table that also involved Marcello Montagner, Mike Sexton, Roberto Begni, Xia Lin and Erion Islamay. His final opponent in the heads-up was Marcello Montagner, but by that time Palumbo has built such a chip advantage that it was too much for Montagner to handle – he left for the exit after less than half an hour, taking home a comforting second placing paycheck of Euro 84,200. He left Palumbo as the winner of the competition to enjoy the main prize – his biggest career win to date, bringing his career earnings to over a million dollars.
