Major international poker pro Phil Ivey made it into the headlines this week over reports that he has initiated legal proceedings against the 184-year-old Mayfair-based Crockfords, owned by the Malaysian Genting gambling group which he claims withheld millions of his winnings from Punto Banco.
The first reports of this issue came late last year, and back then Crockfords admitted that it was withholding the payment but failed to provide the reasons why. This, of course, triggered speculations that this may have something to do with Ivey's partner, a "beautiful Oriental woman" as the industry observers described her, whose membership at another Mayfair Casino has been suspended.
Regarding the whole case, Ivey commented, saying: “Crockfords has left me no alternative but to proceed with legal action, following its decision to withhold my winnings.”
