Young German Takes Down EPT Grand Final High Roller Event
Despite being a mainly online poker player, a young German Max “altiFC” Altergott (22) proved himself worthy in the live tournament arena when he took down the Euro 100,000 buy-in Super High Roller event at the Pokerstars and Monte-Carlo Casino EPT Grand Final, taking home a massive Euro 1,746,400 paycheck in what turns out to be his first major live tournament win. The Super High Roller event, which saw a total of 42 players enter the competition, featured eight re-loads which generated created a total prize pool of Euro 4,851,000. At the final table Altergott faced formidable opposition in shape of some of the biggest names of the game - Jason Mercier and Scott Seiver (USA); Sorel Mizzi, Tim Adams and Mike Watson from Canada; and Vladimir Troyanovskiy from Russia. In the heads-up the action was down to Altergott and Mercier, who didn't make it to the victor's trophy in the end, and had to settle with a second placing prize of Euro 1,115,700. On the other side, apart from his great cash prize, Altergott also received a victory bracelet worth Euro 10,000 from Shamballa Jewels. Commenting on his win, the young German said he was quite comfortable with the opposition, noting that he has played most of them online: "I had a good feel for their playing styles, but they still presented a serious challenge and I was pleased to be able to beat them."
