Another two events wrapped up at this year's World Series of Poker - the $3,000 buy-in NLHE Shootout and $1,500 buy-in Limit Hold'em events under schedule numbers 9 and 10 respectively. Claiming his second WSOP bracelet in event 9 was renowned internet player Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy who outplayed 643 other players to claim the main prize of $299,486 in the $3,000 No Limit Hold'em Shootout event. At the final table he encountered formidable opposition from Evan Silverstein, Steve Silverman, Tim West, Chris Klodnicki, Max Steinberg and David “Bakes” Baker. In the heads up, the action was up to Josephy and Evan Silverstein, and it was an exciting sight to watch as the chip lead kept changing hands over and over again. At one point, Josephy gained the upper hand and claimed the victory, leaving Silverstein with a second placing prize of $185,487. As for event 10, it saw Illinois poker pro Brent Wheeler besting the field of 645 players, outplaying some big names on his way to his first winner's bracelet. The final table included Wheeler, Mark Mierkalns, Malissia Zapata, Chiduziem Obi, Grayson Scoggin, William James, Brian Nichols, Alex Queen and Eric Froehlich. In the heads-up, Wheeler met Canadian Mark Mierkalns, but Wheeler dominated the action and managed to eliminate his opponent who had to settle with the runner-up prize of $118,300, while he took the main prize of $191,605 as a reward for his effort.
