Update: Caesars Interactive Delays Opening of WSOP Online Poker Site
It appears that those anticipating WSOP online poker site, the second to open in Nevada's real-money online poker market, will have to wait a bit longer, judging by the words of Caesars Interactive Entertainment chief exec Mitch Garber. Namely, Garber revealed that the site, licensed and regulated in Nevada under the World Series of Poker brand and in partnership with 888 Holdings, will be delayed until later this summer due to the complexity of the technology. In the meantime, prospective players can pre-register on the site and get incentives to do so. Regarding this, Garber said: “We are not overly aggressive about it, but the sign-ups early on are going better than anyone expected,” and he also revealed that the company plans to become dominant in the Nevada online poker market once launched. “Nevada is a very important state, and we don't underestimate the number of visitors who come into the market and might want to play on laptops or mobile devices,” Garber said, noting that he would nevertheless support interstate gambling compacts with other states as these could boost player liquidity. As for marketing tactics which CIE can use to enhance online player acquisition, he said these include offering seats in major live tournaments and hotel accommodation or free meals and entertainment at Caesars Entertainment land casino resorts. And eyeing the great potential of the New Jersey online gambling market, Garber assessed: “New Jersey is a large state with huge pass-through traffic. We are hopeful when you combine the WSOP and Caesars brands it will resonate with the marketplace.” In conclusion, Garber gave his assessment of the future of online gambling, estimating that most online activity is growing and will continue to do so over the coming decade.
