Texas Reintroduces Poker Legislation
Texas may be the next state to approve online poker. Texas Representative Joe Barton presented his online poker legislation bill once again to the House of Representatives. The bill is called HR 2666, the “Internet Poker Freedom Act of 2013”. The legislation was presented to the House along with New York Representative Peter King's bill HR 2282, the “Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2013”. During an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Howard Stutz, Barton said that his poker bill will go down much better with Congress than Rep. King's bill which encompasses online gambling as a whole. “(This bill) will accomplish my goal of protecting the integrity of the game and the rights of those who play it,” Barton said. “Poker is an all-American game; I continue to be supportive of the Americans who play poker online. They deserve to have a legal, on-shore system that makes sure everyone is playing in an honest, fair structure.” As many states go round and round hoping to pass some sort of poker and online gambling legislation, it does keep the topic hot and in the forefront. The topic of online poker and gambling remains relevant with the federal government as we see several states implement their own rules to play by.
