Online Poker Discussed at Congressional Hearing
A Congressional hearing was held in Washington DC on Tuesday regarding the good, the bad and he ugly of federal regulation of online poker. Arguments were presented from both those for and those against federal regulation including the Poker Players Alliance, the American Gaming Association and Texas Representative Joe Barton. Las Vegas Sands owner Sheldon Adelson was front and center opposing online gambling in general while presenter Andrew Abboud is pulling for an updated Wire Act to exclude all online gambling. John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance action group and American Gaming Association CEO Geoff Freeman both spoke in favor of federal regulation of online poker. Representative Barton said: "I will say as a practicing Christian that God does give men and women free will, and I think that we ought to have a law that represents free will in this issue."
