First Greek Player Wins EPT
Amateur poker player, Sotirios Koutoupas of Greece won Euro 614,000, a $5,000 Swiss watch and became the first Greek European Poker Tour champion at the EPT Deauville. Koutoupas defeated 671 players to win the title. Koutoupas headed for the final table with Eugene Katchalov; Oliver Price, Eli Heath and Harry Law from Britain; Rustem Muratov from Russia and Carlo De Benedittis from Italy; and Anthony Lerust of France. Koutoupas started out as chip leader and ended up in the heads up with Katchalov. Katachalov took second place with a prize of Euro 379,500 and Tweeted: "Bittersweet to get 2nd and miss out on the triple crown but I'm extremely happy nevertheless." Koutoupas told the press: “It was my time now, it was my time to win. I was very lucky today in some situations but that's poker. Everything went well for me.”
