World Poker Tour Championship Moves to Borgata
The World Poker Tour championship event is always held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas but this year it's travelling to New Jersey's Borgata. The $15,000 buy-in competition began on Monday and will run through April 26th with a top prize of over $1.35 million. Borgata president Tom Ballance told the Associated Press: "With online gaming and the popularity of the Borgata brand, the centre of gravity of poker is moving to New Jersey.” Adam Pliska, president of the World Poker Tour, said that the decision to move the location of the championship event to New Jersey was made to bring some focus to the availability of online poker in the state. There were 10 online qualifiers with an additional 30 that qualified online for events in the Borgata Spring Open. Highlights will be broadcast on television next month across the country.
