Ultimate Gaming Closing its Nevada Online Operation
Nevada based Ultimate Gaming offered a free version of Windows 7 and VMFusion virtualization software when it launched 19 months ago but the company is going under. "As has been the case in other jurisdictions, online poker revenues in Nevada have fallen far short of original projections,” Tom Breitling, chairman of Ultimate Gaming, said. "Moreover, the state-by-state approach to online gaming has created an extremely cost-prohibitive and challenging operating environment. These factors have combined to make the path to profitability very difficult and uncertain. Consequently, we have decided to cease operations." Legalized online gambling in the US requires players to be within the borders of legalized states. This is verified with the use of IP address and location-tracking software. Prospects for an expansion of legalized online gambling in the US were diminished during the fallout from the November mid-term elections. "I think the Senate transition away from Reid is, on the surface, bad for Internet gaming,” Macquarie Securities gaming analyst Chad Beynon told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Ultimate Gaming sent its players an e-mail on Friday with the notice that it will be shutting down. Players were told that they may withdraw their balances or "wait to receive a check from us of your final balance". The Nevada Gaming Control Board will keep a close eye on it to ensure that player receive their money from the company. Real Gaming and World Series of Poker are still operational in the Nevada online market.
