Online Poker for New York in 2015?
Although attempts to push through online poker regulatory and licensing laws in New York State have been unsuccessful, the state indicates that it will try again in the coming year. New York's population is more than double New Jersey's at nearly 20 million which is likely what prompted MGM to begin lobbying for legalization this year. The New York Times reported on MGM's lobbying after the results came from a study came in revealing that NY poker players wager as much as $110 million each year with foreign online poker operators. March 2014 saw the proposal for legalization presented to the state legislature but was halted at the committee stage. Chairman of the state Senate Committee on Gaming and Wagering, Sen. John Bonacic, didn't comment on a need to discuss the issue, which has kept hope alive. Morgan Stanley, investment bank and financial company, predict that online poker legislation in NY may not happen until 2016.
