Letter from Malaysian Minister Withdrawn in Phua Case
The letter from a Malaysian Minister clearing Paul Phua of involvement in organized crime was withdrawn after the prosecution complained causing chaos surrounding the minister's “opinion” of Phua. The Malaysian government was opposed to the use of the letter, which stated that Phua helps the Malaysian government on security matters, as its contents were private. Phua is being tried in a case filed by the FBI after he was caught in an illegal sports betting operation from three Caesars Palace casino resort villas last year. The prosecution and defense continue to argue whether the FBI's access to Phua's villas were legal without a search warrant so there will likely be increased media attention on the case with both sides taking full advantage of it.
