A 63-year-old Russian Victor Ilyukhin has become the first Main Event winner of season 9 of the Grosvenor Casinos' GUKPT, taking home GBP 82,600! He came out victorious after besting a field of 289, which culminated in heads-up play with Alex Spencer, a 21-year-old student, who already accumulated some impressive winnings during his short career.
The £1,090 buy-in Main Event had a guaranteed prizepool of £200,000, which was exceeded by £89,000, result of a large turnout. Alex Spencer bagged £54,050 and the third place was taken by Zahari Petrov.
