The 2015 World Series of Poker Circuit stop at the Las Vegas Planet Hollywood saw its share of exciting moments like Brandon West's win in Event 1 and Joe Kuether's High Roller win but the real sparks ignited when an amateur poker player, Sean Berrios, secured the stop spot in WSOP Circuit Planet Hollywood Main Event.
The tournament event attracted 1,304 participants, which generated a prize pool of $1,956,000. Berrios' success paid off to the tune of $347,192 plus a seat into the final 2016 WSOP Global Casino Championship.
Berrios has previously earned a total of $113,636 in live tournament winnings with nearly half of it coming from his $57,536 win and 4th place finish in the 2014 WSOP Event #43: $1,500 Limit Hold'em. In 2014, he also took 70th place in the Millionaire Make for $18,091.
"I'm just ecstatic right now," Berrios said to WSOP officials following his main event win. "I just stayed patient and I waited to pick my spots."
As an active duty member of the Air Force Berrios considers himself to be an amateur poker player but he certainly has plenty to be proud of whether in or out of the game.
Final table payouts:
1. Sean Berrios - $347,192
2. Peter Hengsakul - $215,160
3. Antonios Roungeris - $157,908
4. Davis Aalvik - $119,316
5. Ben Palmer - $91,052
6. Brian Hansen - $70,083
7. Dennis Stevermer - $54,752
8. Jonathan Chehanske - $42,993
9. Ali Fazeli - $34,269

It sounds like he is more of a semi-professional than an amateur, but I suppose the only difference is how often and how much you win that determines your status. That win is more than a lot of highly educated professionals in other fields ever make in a year of hard work!

I like to hear news that amateur poker players have won good prizes in major live poker tournaments. With the popularity of online poker I think the amount of amateur players who do good performances in live tournaments is increasing more and more. Congratulations to the player Sean Berrios, actually $ 347.192 is a good...
